The calculator returns several values after each entry. Knowing what each figure represents — and what to check before acting on it — keeps results accurate and prevents avoidable errors at the syringe.
The Output Fields
Every single compound result includes three key figures:
- Concentration — the calculated mg/mL (or mcg/mL) of your reconstituted solution
- Draw volume in mL — the volume to pull, expressed as a decimal
- Draw volume in units — the same volume expressed as U-100 insulin syringe markings
The blend calculator adds per-compound breakdowns alongside the combined total. The accumulation calculator returns a per-interval table rather than a single draw figure.
Verifying Concentration First
Before reading the draw volume, confirm the concentration field matches what you expect. It should equal your vial amount divided by your reconstitution volume.
Vial: 5 mg | BAC water: 2 mL → Expected concentration: 2.5 mg/mL
If the calculator shows a different value, check your inputs for a unit mismatch or entry error
An unexpected concentration is almost always caused by a unit mismatch between the vial and BAC water fields, or an incorrect vial amount entry.
Using mL vs. Units
Both output formats represent the same volume. Use whichever maps directly to your syringe:
- Units — use this if you have a U-100 insulin syringe. Draw to the exact unit marking shown.
- mL — use this if you have a standard luer lock syringe marked in mL, or any non-U-100 syringe.
Do not attempt to convert units to mL manually unless you have confirmed your syringe type. See the Syringe Units guide for details.
Flagging Suspicious Results
Results worth double-checking before drawing:
- Draw volume under 5 units — precision drops at small volumes; consider increasing BAC water
- Draw volume over syringe capacity — switch to a larger syringe or recalculate at higher concentration
- Concentration that seems unexpectedly high or low — re-verify vial amount and reconstitution volume inputs
- Any result that is an order of magnitude off from what you expected — check for an mg/mcg mismatch
Quick Reference
Verify concentration before acting on draw volume
Concentration = Vial amount ÷ Reconstitution volume
Units output = U-100 syringe only
mL output = use for non-U-100 syringes
Results under 5 units or over syringe capacity need a second look
Common Mistakes
Concentration is the foundation of every result. A wrong concentration produces a wrong draw volume. Verify it first.
Switch to the mL output and draw to the mL scale on your syringe.
An off-looking result is almost always caused by a unit mismatch or entry error. Recheck inputs before drawing.
